Black love exists, I know because my grandparents live it! Today (January 5, 2012) I am wishing the two wisest people I know a very happy 49th (correction) wedding anniversary.

They met as children disobediently playing in the parking lot of a grocery store and they’ve been partners in crime (& in love) every since. The two dated in high school and before my granddady left for college, he promised my great-grandmother to come back for my grandma when he could take care of her and the family he intended to start with her. After four years, two college degrees, hundreds of letters and 22 hour bus visits, my grandparents were united and wed in a classic ceremony in the house I plan to raise my (future) children.

Their union has produced so many great things for their legacy to continue, including a charter chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity Incorporated and raising Oregon’s first African American female pastor. I am proud of them and the example they are to aspiring husbands and wives.
